Sean Hayes (Will & Grace, Smash), has a new show called “Sean Saves the World.” Sean stars as a single dad who is left to raise his teenage daughter (Samantha Isler) when her mother moves away. Sean’s mother, played by Linda Lavin (Tony Award winner ’87), frequently tries to give him parenting advice, while not being a very good parent herself. Sean and his co-workers, Megan Hilty (Smash), and Echo Kellum (Ben and Kate), spend most of their day hiding from their difficult-to-please (and absolutely hilarious) boss, played by Thomas Lennon (Reno 911).
“Sean Saves the World” tapes in front of a live studio audience on the Universal Studios backlot. I had the opportunity to see a taping of Episode Four. I had an incredible time watching a single-set/multi-camera show record. It was fascinating to watch the actors, the director, the camera operators all do their part.
If you’ve never seen a show tape before I highly encourage you see a taping of “Sean Saves the World.” There are three filming dates left in October: Tuesday October 15th, 22nd, & 29th. Show tapings run from around 5pm-10pm. If you would like to apply for tickets click here and scroll to select “Sean Saves the World.”
Sean Hayes was such a fun actor to watch. Because they record a few takes per scene I really got to see his improvisation and humor. Sometimes he would say a line differntly every time, and every time it was funny! The writing is excellent and each character gets laugh-out-loud lines.
I think my favorite character on the show is Sean’s boss, Max, played by Reno 911 star Thomas Lennon. I loved watching Thomas act throughout each take, because he had such great comedic timing. Thomas did not miss a beat! Be on the lookout for the end of epsiode four. Max gets pretty tipsy and ends up throwing things at Sean ;)
If you enjoy comedies and get a chance to watch the pilot of “Sean Saves the World” tonight I encourage you to get tickets to see an episode tape. Our audience was able to say hi to the cast and crew when the episode was over, and some people got to meet Sean Hayes and have him sign something for them.
I was able to say hello to Megan Hilty and tell her how much I enjoyed “Smash.” Part of me wants to see it tape again, just so I can watch Thomas Lennon be absolutely hillarious :)
“Sean Saves the World” airs Thursday nights at 9/8pm Central on NBC.
